My Journey as a Support Hero in Overwatch 2: A Healer's Perspective in 2025

Discover the ultimate guide to Overwatch 2 support heroes, highlighting top healers and meta shifts for 2025 to elevate your gameplay and team success.

I've been grinding the Support role in Overwatch 2 for what feels like forever now. As we move through 2025, the meta has shifted dramatically since last year's major updates, but one thing remains constant – a good Support player can make or break your team. After climbing from mid-Gold to Diamond over the past few seasons, I've developed some strong opinions about each healer's capabilities.

With the recent balance changes and the much-anticipated return of 6v6 mode earlier this year, I thought I'd share my personal rankings of all 11 Support heroes based on their healing potential and overall utility in the current meta.

The Bottom Tier: When Healing Isn't Enough

Lucio: The Wall-Riding Wonder

Man, it hurts my soul to put my boy Lucio at the bottom. I've got over 200 hours on him now, but I gotta keep it real – his healing output just doesn't cut it in most situations.

Don't get me wrong, zipping around walls and booping enemies off the map is insanely fun. There's nothing quite like watching a cocky Widowmaker panic when you suddenly appear behind her. But when it comes to pure healing capability? Yikes.

That radius-based healing is just too limiting, especially on larger maps. Unless your team stays clustered (which they never do, let's be honest), you're not providing enough sustain. No burst healing means your Tank is often left high and dry when they need you most.

Brigitte: Flail Away

Brigitte sits just above Lucio in my book. Her kit has all the right ingredients – those repair packs provide decent burst healing, and her shield gives her the survivability to hang with the frontliners.

The problem? Her Inspire passive requires you to be constantly smacking enemies with your flail. In theory, this works great. In practice? It's like herding cats trying to maintain that perfect position where you're hitting enemies while keeping your teammates in your healing radius.

When the stars align, Brig can put out surprising healing numbers. But let's face it – those stars rarely align in the chaos of a typical match.

The Middle of the Pack: Situational Healers

Zenyatta: Tranquility and Discord

Zen is... complicated. His Harmony Orb is perfect for pocket-healing a flanking DPS, and that Discord Orb can turn the tide of a duel instantly. Plus, those orbs hit like a truck – nothing more satisfying than two-tapping a pesky Tracer.

But sweet mother of mercy, is he fragile! No mobility, a hitbox the size of a bus, and health that disappears faster than my SR after a losing streak. When a Doomfist decides you're their target, you might as well start walking back from spawn.

His Transcendence ultimate is basically a giant "NOT TODAY" button that can save your entire team from ults like Genji's Dragonblade or Zarya's Graviton Surge. But for consistent healing throughout a match? There are better options.

Illari: Solar-Powered Healing

Since her buffs in the March 2025 patch, Illari has become more viable, but she still demands precise positioning. Her Solar Rifle provides decent healing, but mastering that Healing Pylon placement is what separates good Illari players from great ones.

I've found myself using her more on maps with tight chokepoints where I can place the Pylon in a protected position while still covering my team. Her Outburst ability gives her some much-needed escape potential, but you'll need quick reflexes to use it effectively.

Her Captive Sun ultimate can be devastating when used correctly, but it feels like everyone and their grandmother can counter it these days.

The Solid Choices: Reliable Healers

Lifeweaver: Blooming Potential

After his recent rework in January 2025, Lifeweaver has finally found his place in the meta. His Healing Blossom now provides more consistent healing, and the reduced cooldown on Lifegrip makes it an incredible tool for saving overextended teammates.

I still struggle sometimes with his Petal Platform placement – nothing more embarrassing than accidentally launching your Tank into the enemy team's loving embrace. But when used correctly, his mobility options make him surprisingly hard to pin down.

Tree of Life remains one of the most visually stunning ultimates in the game, and in the right hands, it can completely turn around a losing fight.

Mercy: The Classic Pocket Healer

Mercy remains the comfort pick for many Support players, including myself on bad days when my aim decides to take a vacation. Her consistent healing beam and damage boost make her valuable in almost any composition.

What keeps her from reaching the top tier is her vulnerability. A good Mercy player needs to master the art of Guardian Angel movement – bouncing between teammates, using super jumps, and generally being harder to hit than a mosquito. But even with perfect movement, one well-placed shot from a hitscan DPS can send you back to spawn.

As my old teammate used to say, "Playing Mercy is like being the only adult at a kindergarten birthday party – everyone needs something from you, and no one appreciates how exhausting it is."

The Cream of the Crop: Top-Tier Healers

Moira: Fade Away from Danger

Moira continues to be my go-to pick when I need reliable healing output without requiring perfect aim. Her Biotic Grasp provides strong healing in close quarters, and those bouncing orbs can reach teammates in positions other healers simply can't access.

What makes Moira exceptional is her survivability. That Fade ability is a get-out-of-jail-free card that lets you escape almost any dangerous situation. I can't count how many times I've faded away from a Reinhardt charge or a D.Va bomb, leaving my would-be killer confused and frustrated.

Her Coalescence ultimate provides both healing and damage in a wide beam, perfect for sustaining your team through a push while simultaneously pressuring the enemy. Just be careful not to get too DPS-hungry – we've all had that "DPS Moira" on our team who forgets their primary job is healing.

Juno: Martian Healing Technology

Even after multiple nerfs since her release, Juno remains one of the strongest healers in the current meta. Her ability to provide healing at range gives her a significant advantage, especially on more open maps.

Her Hyper Ring can give your team the speed boost they need to engage or disengage, and those Pulsar Torpedoes provide burst healing that can save teammates in critical condition.

The recent adjustment to her Orbital Ray ultimate actually made it more tactical – you can't just pop it anywhere and expect value anymore. Now it requires coordination with your team to maximize its effectiveness, which I personally think is a good change.

Ana: The Sniper Support

Ana has been a top-tier support since forever, and for good reason. Her kit offers incredible utility alongside strong healing potential. That Sleep Dart remains one of the most powerful non-ultimate abilities in the game – shutting down enemy ultimates or creating pick opportunities.

The Biotic Grenade is equally game-changing, amplifying healing for your team while denying it to enemies. Landing a good anti-nade on the enemy tank can be the difference between winning and losing a teamfight.

Her Nano Boost ultimate synergizes beautifully with so many heroes. There's nothing quite like the rush of nano-boosting your Genji as he pulls out Dragonblade, knowing you've just enabled a team wipe.

Baptiste: The Ultimate Life-Saver

At the top of my list sits Baptiste, who remains the most well-rounded support in Overwatch 2. His Biotic Launcher provides strong healing with its arcing projectiles, allowing you to heal teammates even when they're behind cover.

The real star of his kit, though, is the Immortality Field. When used correctly, it can completely negate enemy ultimates or save teammates who would otherwise be dead. The recent reduction in its cooldown has made it even more impactful.

His Regenerative Burst provides an instant healing boost to nearby allies, perfect for sustaining your team through periods of heavy damage. And his Exo Boots give him vertical mobility that most supports can only dream of.

Amplification Matrix remains one of the strongest ultimates in the game, doubling both damage and healing that passes through it. A well-placed Matrix can turn even a losing fight into a decisive victory.

Final Thoughts

Support remains the most underappreciated yet influential role in Overwatch 2. A great support player doesn't just heal – they enable their team, shut down enemy plays, and create opportunities that wouldn't otherwise exist.

As we move through 2025, I expect we'll see more balance changes that shake up this list. But for now, if you're looking to climb the competitive ladder, mastering Baptiste, Ana, or Moira will give you the most consistent value.

Remember, though – the best support hero is ultimately the one you enjoy playing and can get the most value from. Even Lucio can be devastating in the hands of a player who has mastered his movement and knows exactly when to speed boost versus heal.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have some more competitive matches to play. My Diamond rank isn't going to maintain itself! 😅
