Experience the thrilling
Just spent the entire weekend diving into Overwatch 2's PvE campaign, and OMG, it's been such a rollercoaster! Three years after its initial release, Blizzard has continued to expand this amazing story mode, but I still find myself revisiting the original three missions that started it all. The nostalgia is real, y'all! ๐
The PvE Experience That Changed Everything

The OW2 PvE campaign has come such a long way since 2023! For those who somehow missed it (like, where have you been?), it all began with three canon story missions set in Rio de Janeiro, Toronto, and Gothenburg. These missions introduced us to the epic struggle against Null Sector, an extremist Omnic group led by Ramattra who's basically giving major villain energy while fighting for Omnic liberation.
When you hop into the Missions playlist, you're greeted with this super immersive command center. The Intel Database on the left is my absolute fave feature - it's packed with juicy lore about heroes, previous missions, and all the shady organizations in the Overwatch universe. I'm still working on unlocking all the hero journals because I'm a completionist and just HAVE TO see everything! #LoreHunter
Mission Breakdown: The OG Three
Resistance (Rio de Janeiro)

This was the first mission where we answered Lรบcio's distress call, and it still slaps! You can play as Reinhardt, Winston, Echo, Genji, Tracer, Mei, or Lรบcio. The challenges in this one include:
-
๐ฎ Complete on Hard difficulty
-
๐ฎ Complete on Expert difficulty
-
๐ฎ Complete on Legendary difficulty
-
๐ฎ Complete with 4 different heroes
-
๐ฎ Defeat 750 Null Sector units
-
๐ฎ Bot Overboard: Push 10 enemies off the map
-
๐ฎ Save-A-Mari: Complete without losing a single life
Even in 2026, I still struggle with Legendary mode sometimes. Not ashamed to admit it - that difficulty is no joke! But the satisfaction when you finally beat it? Chef's kiss ๐จโ๐ณ
Liberation (Toronto)

This second mission reunites us with Sojourn in Toronto, and it's definitely where things get real. The challenge ramps up significantly, and you're constantly under pressure. The mission objectives include:
-
๐ Complete on Hard difficulty
-
๐ Complete on Expert difficulty
-
๐ Complete on Legendary difficulty
-
๐ Complete with 4 different heroes
-
๐ Defeat 1000 Null Sector units
-
๐ Purity: Don't let any civilians die
-
๐ Untouchable: Complete without taking damage from elite enemies
This mission is lowkey the most stressful one for me. Trying to keep all the civilians alive while getting absolutely SWARMED by Null Sector? Talk about anxiety-inducing! But when your team pulls it off? That's what I call a #GamerMoment.
Ironclad (Gothenburg)

Ironclad is the final OG mission and definitely the most challenging. You're limited to just four heroes: Reinhardt, Bastion, Torbjรถrn, and Brigitte. The challenges here are brutal:
-
๐ ๏ธ Complete on Hard difficulty
-
๐ ๏ธ Complete on Expert difficulty
-
๐ ๏ธ Complete on Legendary difficulty
-
๐ ๏ธ Complete with all 4 different heroes
-
๐ ๏ธ Defeat 1000 Null Sector units
-
๐ ๏ธ Iron Cannon: Keep the Iron Cannon above 50% health
-
๐ ๏ธ Gothenburg Gangster: Defeat 25 enemies with Torbjรถrn's turrets
The limited hero selection makes this one particularly tough. Brigitte's healing just doesn't compare to Baptiste or Kiriko, and that Iron Cannon challenge? I was ready to throw my controller through the window! But nothing beats the satisfaction of finally completing it after dozens of tries.
How Far We've Come
It's wild to think these three missions were just the beginning. Since 2023, Blizzard has dropped so many more story chapters, but there's something special about returning to where it all started. The attention to detail in these environments is still impressive in 2026 - the destroyed Paraรญso, the chaos of Toronto, and the industrial vibe of Gothenburg.
What makes these missions replayable even now is the difficulty scaling. Legendary mode is still a genuine challenge that requires serious teamwork and strategy. I've literally been grinding these missions with my squad for THREE YEARS and we still occasionally wipe on Legendary. No cap!
Tips for New Players in 2026
For anyone just diving into these classic missions:
-
๐ Start with Resistance to get a feel for the mechanics
-
๐ Communication is key - use voice chat!
-
๐ Hero selection matters more than you think
-
๐ Don't rush - take your time and clear areas methodically
-
๐ Save your ultimates for elite enemies and final bosses
I'm still amazed at how these missions hold up after all this time. The story integration, the voice acting, the environmental storytelling - it's all top-tier content that deserves recognition.
Even with all the new PvE content available in 2026, there's something nostalgic about returning to these original three missions. They were the foundation for everything that came after, and they still provide some of the most challenging and satisfying cooperative gameplay in the Overwatch universe.
So grab your friends, pick your heroes, and dive back into the fight against Null Sector. These missions may be old-school now, but they're absolute classics for a reason! #OverwatchLegacy #PvEForever #StillGrinding
